Description

  • Porcelain, gilt-bronze
  • Haut. totale 71 cm
decorated with a pair of phoenixes with long tail feathers flying above a couple of deer looking up in a landscape filled with peonies and butterflies, gilt-bronze mounts on the neck and base

Condition

Both vases are mounted as lamps with gilt-bronze mounts on the rim and base. They have been examined without taking off the mounts. Both vases have been clobbered with enamels, probably in Holland in the late 19th century. The vase on the left of the catalogue illustration shows a ca. 1cm hairline crack starting at the rim and extending vertically into the neck. There are some firing flaws on the glaze. The vase on the right of the catalogue illustration has been broken in several pieces and restuck, with some losses that have been restored (visible on the illustration). There are two chips on the rim, and minor losses to the enamels and gilding.
