  • Pastel on canvas

Condition

- several thin scratches appear especially in the background in the upper right and a thin horizontal scratch on the model's chest - small areas appear braded, especially in the upper part of the composition (a thin horizontal trace in the lower part as well) which could explain that the signature was slightly "dulled" - small pin holes appear on the borders, due to wooden baguettes used to fix the canvas - the right border is dirty

Catalogue Note

Daughter to John McPherson Berrien Connelly (1845-1905) and Grace Sterling King (1846-1875), Grace King Connelly (1875-1956) married Ugo Gregorini-Bingham (1869-1924) in 1894 in Paris. Their daughter, Grace Gregorini-Bingham, was born in 1896 in Bologna. Also known as "Minnie l'Italienne", she married Charles Louis, prince de Beauvau-Craon (1878-1942) in 1920. They had a son, Marc de Beauvau-Craon (1921-1982).

In our opinion, this charming portrait was executed by Boldini circa 1894, before Grace's wedding, in accordance with the usage.

We would like to thank Mr. Tiziano Panconi and the Museo archives Giovanni Boldini Macchiaioli, Pistoia, for kindly authenticating this work. A certificate will be delivered to the buyer (inventory number 2412).
