Description

  • Haut. 17 et 20 cm, larg. 21 et 20,5 cm ; Height 6 2/3  in and 7 3/4  in, width 8 1/4  in and 8 in
one depicting a Chinese man with his family and their pet monkey, the other with children playing at being a jewellery merchant; the latter with a blue sword mark; (chips, breaks and losses)

Provenance

These groups are described on reference 191 in the valuation of the estate of the Prince Marc de Beauvau Craon, 5th Prince de Beauvau (1816 - 1883) in 1883 (French National Archives AN.MC/ET/L/1385). They were located in the grand salon of his house on 34 avenue Montaigne in Paris.

Condition

The illustration of the catalogue is accurate. The Chinese group: Two chips on the top and to the rim of the Chinese man's hat. The stick is broken and missing on the left hand of the Chinese boy. There are small chips to the leaves on the terrace. The two children: One figure is broken and missing at the back of the group. There are small chips to the flowers.
