The complete portfolio, comprising twenty-five hand-colored lithographs heightened with gum arabic, circa 1855, by Day and Haghe, printed on card mounted on board within ink-ruled frames, Reese's 4th issue, with text and title-page contained in the original linen-covered boards, each print framed *(5 prints examined out of frame) (25 prints)

Condition

The prints are in good condition, with strong colors. The majority with pale, inconspicuous fox marks in the backgrounds of the images. Some with a few inconspicuous spots of discoloration and stray ink, also in the backgrounds. Plate 4 ('Catching the Wild Horse') with a 1/4 inch tear at the upper right edge of the card. The mounts with scattered foxing and minor surface soiling throughout (recto and verso), not affecting the image. Faint time-stain at the extreme edges of the mounts, and faint light-stain evident at mat opening. Pin holes in the upper corners, and the corners are slightly worn, some with skinning. A few small abrasions and nicks at mount edges. (5 prints examined out the frame) The text sheets with soft handling creases throughout and occasional foxing (mainly at the outer sheets), the front and back cover toned overall and with scattered foxing. The boards worn, the cloth faded and fraying or worn away at edges, with surface soiling and stains throughout, the leather title lifting at one corner.
