According to the 1910 US Federal Census, Frederick Duesberg was born in Germany circa 1933 and immigrated to New York in 1857. He and his wife, Augusta Duesberg, had seven children together. In his will dated June 3, 1911, Frederick Duesberg of 166 Warwick Street, Brooklyn leaves "his loving cup" to his son William Duesberg, which is presumably the same cup. He died January 2, 1915.

Charles Lewis Tiffany (1812-1902) was the founder of Tiffany & Co. in 1837. Most craftsmen working at Tiffany & Co. in the 19th and early 20th century are not publicly known. This piece serves as a rare historical document into those employees working in 1901.
