de forme ovale, reposant sur quatre pieds griffes à patins godronnés, le corps richement décoré de godrons feuillagés, coquilles, écailles de poisson, centré d'un côté des armes impériales d'Allemagne et de Saxe timbrées de la couronne impériale, avec, comme supports, un sauvage et un lion, de l'autre côté des dates 1873 et 1898 timbrées de la couronne impériale, les anses en mufle de lion tenant une poignée amovible dans la gueule, avec sa doublure en métal argenté
Provenance
Ce grand rafraichîssoir a certainement été commandé à l'occasion des vingt-cinq ans de mariage du prince Albert de Prusse (1837-1906), cousin germain de l'empereur Frédéric III d'Allemagne, et de son épouse née duchesse Marie de Saxe-Altenberg (1854-1898). Albert était le fils du prince Albert, frère du roi de Prusse Frédéric-Guillaume IV, de l'empereur d'Allemagne Guillaume I et beau-frère du tsar Nicolas I. Il avait épousé Marianne de Hollande, fille du roi Guillaume I des Pays-Bas. Outre Albert, ils eurent deux filles, Charlotte, duchesse de Saxe-Meiningen et Alexandrine, duchesse de Mecklembourg-Schwerin.
Condition
The silver cistern in very good overall condition. Silver weight 19,275 gr.
The silver-plated liner with silvering almost disappeared.
This piece is a copy from the wine-cistern made at the beginning of 189th century for the Berlin castle, illustrated in a drawing.
