Condition
The image is slightly too orange.
Mounts are slightly tarnished and rubbed.
Marquetry with expected scratches and tiny chips; one vertical hairline shrinkage crack on the right side. One veneer band needs to be restuck on the far right of the lower drawer.
Marble top with stains and the right rear corner broken and restored.
Very nice design and unusual proportions.

De nombreuses caratéristiques permettent d'attribuer cette commode à Godefroy Dester, reçu maître ébéniste en 1774 : une paire de commodes portant son estampille présente un décor de marqueterie (frise de postes et vases fleuris) et des montures de bronze doré identiques (vente Christie's à Londres, le 16 décembre 1992, lot 120).
