Condition
The image is slightly too orange.
The case is in good condition overall; gilding was carefully cleaned up, and is scarcely rubbed on the flat surfaces.
Please note the case is probably not original to the movement and dial : those have been added later on to the case.
The movement appears to be complete and has a pinwheel escapement; the crutch for the escapement is seriously out of alignment and the movement will require complete service and overhaul. It does not strike but only tells the time with the hands. The winder is missing but can be easily replaced.

Catalogue Note
Ferdinand Berthoud (1727-1807), horloger reçu maître en 1753, nommé horloger-mécanicien de la marine et du roi en 1770
A l’instar des meilleurs horlogers du temps, Berthoud s’entoura des plus talentueux artisans pour la création de ses pendules, notamment des ciseleurs et bronziers Caffieri, Martincourt, Osmond, Saint-Germain et Gouthière. Un régulateur de cheminée de construction similaire, daté de 1783, est conservé au musée Paul-Dupuy de Toulouse (inv. 18279).
