Cloth-covered box: apart from some minor scuffs consistent with age and handling, this element is in good condition. All 68 elements are present and intact. The plastic of the large glass is warped (standard for theses edition).There are two breaks to the plexiglass, the largest of which is approximately 3 cm, on the center and lower left corner. The "u" of the underwood traveler's folding item shows signs of rubbing. This work is in well-preserved and very good condition.

Vers 1935, Duchamp avait produit suffisamment d’œuvres iconiques pour créer une nouvelle œuvre originale d’art à partir de reproductions de ces œuvres : il s’agit de la Boîte-en-valise, une boîte qui, une fois ouverte, se déplie et se déploie. Musée portatif, pas moins de 68 de ses œuvres les plus célèbres s’étalent sous les yeux du spectateur, reproduites ou miniaturisées. Le concept atteint une telle popularité que sept versions distinctes furent produites (avec ou sans valise) en éditions limitées entre 1941 et 1966.
Dans la version proposée ici, on reconnaît notamment les œuvres suivantes : Fontaine (reproduction en terre cuite de l’urinoir culte d’après le Readymade), La Mariée mise à nu par ses célibataires, même (reproduction de la monumentale composition de verre et plomb, réalisée entre 1915 et 1923, explorant la complexité des désirs masculin et féminin), Monte Carlo Bond (reproduction d’un acte financier fictif conçu pour braquer la banque du casino de Monte Carlo, 1924), le célèbre L.H.O.O.Q. travestissant la Joconde en homme ou encore Air de Paris 50 cc (réplique d’une œuvre conceptuelle visant à capturer et embouteiller 50 cc d’air parisien).
