Condition

Overall condition very good and fresh. Hinged to the backing top and bottom centre. Remains of glue from previous mounting adhering to the verso in all four corners, but not visible from recto. Small tear, lower right corner. Sold in a carved and gilded frame.

Catalogue Note

Ce dessin, dans un très bel état de conservation, est une parfaite illustration de l'art de van Goyen si accompli dans le dessin de paysages. Il compile en effet à lui-seul l'atmosphère poétique visible dans de nombreux dessins de paysage de la moitié du XVIIe siècle, où l'on aimait à transformer des scènes quotidiennes en de belles et nobles compositions.
