Description

  • approx. 300 x 122,5 cm; 9 3/4 x 4 ft
en laine et soie, représentant des personnages médiévaux dans un paysage architecturé, certains personnages avec leur nom indiqué en lettres gothiques Beatris et Herius ; (réduite en hauteur et en largeur ; restaurations)

Condition

This fragment of a larger tapestry is not lined. The original selvedge is present and partially turned under on the right side and there is later reinforcement on the outer left vertical edge. The reduction in height has resulted in the lower section of the composition being lacking, for example none of the feet are visible. There are some small repairs and sections of reweaving to the dark brown for example the shadow of the architectural niche at the top right corner as visible on the photograph. Very decorative and lovely example of early weaving with particularly charming attention to the costumes with balanced present composition and colours overall. It is recommended that the tapestry be lined and the Velcro attached across the top for hanging.
