Catalogue Note

The present work, executed in a distinctive combination of trois crayons and stumping, with some delicately applied touches of pastel, is reminiscent of Vincent's series of female “grandes têtes” the most celebrated of which is a portrait thought to depict his fellow artist, Marie-Gabrielle Capet, now housed in the collection of the Musée du Petit Palais.1
