Description

  • Glazed pottery
standing four-square on an unglazed rectangular base, the green-glazed head with large eyes turned slightly to the left, the body glazed in a rich ochre with green and cream splashes to the left rear leg, the unglazed saddle with traces of red pigment and later decorated

An English Collection, acquired in the early 20th Century (by repute).

Condition

The brightly glazed horse is in good condition with the exception of restored breaks through the lower section of each leg, a restored break at the tail, two repaired breaks through the rectangular base, over-painting to the mane and forelocks, possible re-freshing/later painting to the decoration on the saddle, and minor scratches and glaze firing imperfections and glaze degradation consistent with burial.
