the quatrefoil lobed cover finely carved to the top with a scene of scholars seated amidst overhanging pine trees and mountains looking out at a flying goose, attended to by a boy, the sides with cartouches of floral blooms and leaves, all reserved against diaper grounds, the interiors and base lacquered black

Condition

The cover has a restored break (approx. 3 x 1.5 cm) from the rim and an associated approx. 1.5 cm crack, as well as several rim cracks (the longest being approx. 1.5 cm). The head of the geese is missing. The base has several rim cracks the longest approx. 4.5 cm. There are some small losses, flakes and minor chips to the extremities, and age cracks to both.
