Description

  • Jadeite, silver-inlaid wood
the flattened ovoid body rising from a short spreading foot to a tall neck set with a pair of loop handles suspending loose rings, carved around the exterior in low and high relief with a sinuous dragon, the domed stepped cover surmounted by a lotus finial suspending a pair of loose rings, the stone of white and apple-green tone, wood stand; together with a jadeite ruyi-shaped hairpin

Provenance

The vase, was purchased in Hong Kong in 1984.
The hairpin, Sotheby's London, 9th May 1985, lot 740.

Condition

The vase and cover are in overall very good condition, with minute fritts to the rims. The hairpin has been broken off at the neck and restuck (with visible traces of glue). The vase is slightly more green in colour than illustrated in the catalogue.
