Description

  • 15.6cm
the Bactrian figure seated on a recumbent lion, skilfully depicted with rounded eyes beneath curly eyebrows above an exaggerated nose, the lips with a gentle smile framed by a bushy beard, wearing a pointed cab and clad in long robes billowing in the wind, his arms raised holding the reins tied to the snout of the lion, the ferocious animal with furrowed eyebrows above bulging eyes and flaring nostrils, further detailed with a long flowing mane, the stone of an even pale celadon tone

Provenance

Collection of T.Y. Chao (1912-1999), and thence by descent in the family.

Condition

It is in overall good condition. Small areas of the edges of the robe appear to have been slightly polished, probably to conceal some nicks. The underside has been drilled, possibly to secure it to a stand at some point.
