the flattened baluster body set with a pair of kui dragon handles on the shoulder, rising from a bed of swirling waves forming the base, the exterior deftly worked with the Hehe Erxian, one boy depicted crouching on cragged rocks holding a box opening to a stream of vapours and a leafy lotus bloom, the other hunching on further rockwork near the shoulder of the vase above a standing crane, the vase surmounted by a domed cover carved with lappets and a bud-form finial, wood stand

Provenance

Collection of T.Y. Chao (1912-1999), and thence by descent in the family.

Condition

It is in overall good condition. There appears to be a polished chip to the object held by the upper figure and a flake to the scrolling clouds on the reverse, in addition to other expected minor nicks and bruises. As visible in the catalogue photo, the stone has some natural inclusions and veinings.
