  • ceramic
carved to the body with lotus blossoms borne on undulating foliate scrolls, the neck with upright plantain leaves, covered overall save for the footring with an olive-green glaze

Collection of Vicomt Tsuchiya, by repute.

Condition

The mouth has a chip of approx. 1.5 by 1.8 cm which has been restored with Japanese gold lacquer kintsugi, together with an associated hairline crack of approx. 4 cm from the rim (measuring approx. 3.2 cm on the exterior). The mouthrim appears to have a further horizontal hairline of approx. 1.5 cm. The vase also has some surface wear (especially to the inner mouth), original firing imperfections including a firing crack circulating approx. 3/4 of the countersunk exterior base, as well as minor chips to the unglazed footring.
