Catalogue Note

First edition. Inscribed and with an original drawing by Picasso in six colors on the title-page. The drawing is inscribed "pour Albert A Squillace. Picasso 3.7.58." The title is also inscribed by Duncan for Squillace. Albert A. Squillace was the art director for the Ridge Press, which was a division of Harper & Brothers.

The exuberant head of a clown was done by Picasso in two shades of blue, two of green, plus red and white. Duncan's photographs of Picasso at work and relaxing with his family attracted great interest when they were first published in several books in the 1950's and 60's.
