Catalogue Note

From 1814 until her death in 1839 Lady Stanhope lived on the slopes of Mount Lebanon in the style of an Eastern potentate. The Memoirs and Travels cover her extensive travels throughout Syria, the Holy Land and include details on her visits inter alia to Athens, Constantinople and Cyprus.
