Catalogue Note

The Scottish botanist Robert Fortune travelled extensively in China. On his first trip in 1843 he was sent by the Royal Horticultural Society to collect ornamental as well as commercially viable plants from the Chinese interior and gather information on the country's horticulture. His Three Years' Wanderings in the Northern Provinces of China, describes this journey through China, Formosa and the Philippines.
