Kretzschmer représente ici toute la force du Simoun, vent chaud et violent qui sévit en Afrique du Nord et dans le désert d'Arabie. Il réalisa un tableau reprenant la composition en 1844 (conservé au Museum der bildenden Künsten, Leipzig).
