The illustration of the catalogue is accurate. The gilding is rubbed and tarnished. The tops were probably originally fitted with covers which are now missing. There are verdigris traces to the top (used as a jardinière) and especially to one base. The three rams of one athenienne were previously with rings, these rings are now missing. On pine of one basin has to be refixed properly. The pine on each athenienne is later. The central ornament between the sphinges of the base has been partly modified. Both constructions are firm. A rare pair. Nice quality of chasing.
