with polychrome scenes of views and landscapes of Gotha, Baden and its surroundings, the rim with the coat of arms of the Saxe-Cobourg-Gotha and von Baden families, each view named on the reverse side of the plate, marked Gotha and with a rooster in a medallion

Made for the wedding of Duc Ernest II of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and Princess Alexandrine of Baden in 1842

Condition

The illustration of the catalogue is accurate. There is a chip to the edge of one plate (approx 0.5cm.), and another one with a crack and important wears to the gilding. There are wears to the gilding framing of the central views of all the plates.

Catalogue Note

These plates are part of a service realised for the wedding of the Duke Ernest II of Saxe-Cobourg and Gotha to the Princess Alexandrine of Baden in 1842. A vase from that service is at the Schlossmuseum of Gotha and reproduced in Helmut Scherf, Thüringer Porzellan, 1980, n° 89, p. 125.
