An Art Deco agate, enamel, sapphire and diamond frame, by Cartier
The rectangular-shaped frame in agate embellished with a blue enamel inner border, to the stylized elements set with rose-cut diamonds and engraved sapphires, mounted in yellow gold and platinum, signed Cartier, in its case, circa 1930

The miniature, on ivory, is a portrait of Marjorie Merriweather Post (1887-1973). Her third marriage was to Mr Joseph E.Davies in 1935, U.S Ambassador.
 
Mother of Eleanor Post Close and grand-mother of Antal Post de Bekessy, Marjorie Merriweather Post was an exceptional business woman, collector and American philanthropist.




She bequeathed a part of her magnificent furniture collection, her jewellery by Cartier, paintings as well as her Washington residence to the Smithsonian Institute in order to be presented to the public.

Agate and enamel in good condition, yellow gold mounting engraved Marjorie Post Davies 1934 on the reverse, overall condition very good, case damaged
