Condition

The illustration of the catalogue is accurate. There are the inevitable dents, marks and scratches due to age and use. As stated in the catalogue, the gilding is later. There are some chips and cracks with losses to the gilding revealing the red bowl, the white gesso and the wood underneath. The backrests have been broken and restored near the junction with the left hand side armrest for one, and near the right hand side armrest for the other one. Each foot has been reinforced under the seatrail with a piece of wood. Both constructions are firm. There are wears and stains to the velvet. As stated in the saleroom notice please note that the pair of armchairs is late 18th century with the spurious stamp JB.BOULARD. Very impressive model with a high quality of carving.
