Description

  •  Virgin and child
  • alabaster group, with traces of polychromy and gilding ; in a wood and green velvet triptych frame
  • albâtre
  • Haut. (albâtre) 41,5 cm; height (alabaster) 16 5/12  in.

Condition

Fairly good condition overall with surface dirt, notably in the crevices, minor scratches all over the surface and chips along the edge of the base and to the high points at several places. Larger losses are visible to the back of the Virgin's crown, to the folds of her cloak. A finger is partly missing to the Virgin's proper left hand. The Christ's proper right hand is missing, his proper left thumb and his proper right big toe as well. His head has been reattached. Remains of polychromy are visible at several places, notably to the base imitating grass. Traces of gilding are visible to the hair and to the Virgin's crown. Traces of gilt ornament are visible along the edges of the Virgin's cloak.
