Description

Condition

The illustration of the catalogue is accurate. The Chinese man looking to the left: there are two small chips at the back of the base. The Chinese man looking to the right : the top part of his hat is broken and missing, followed by a small hairline crack at the back of the hat. There are chipts to the forehead, to the nose, the front of the base, and to two corners at the back of the base.

These two models of polychrome statuettes are reproduced in Katharina Hantschmann and Alfred Ziffer's catalogue, Franz Anton Bustelli, Nymphenburger Porzelannfiguren des Rokoko, 2005, p. 459, n° 114-115 and are visible at the Bayer Nationalmuseum of Munich. Two white statuettes of the same models are part of the Bäulm collection and reproduced by Alfred Ziffer, Nymphenburger Porzellan, Sammling Bäulm, 1992, n° 71-72, pp. 52-53. Two other white statuettes are in the porcelain collections of the Dresden State Art Collection.
