Condition
Overall, the condition of the marble is good with dirt and minor wear to the surface consistent with age. The marble might benefit from a light professional clean. There is particular dirt in the crevices. There are minor naturally occurring inclusions to the surface throughout, most with fill. There is light veining to the marble consistent with the material. Notably, to the proper left lower leg. There are a few chips, including to the bird's wings, and some minor scratches. There are minor chips to the underside of the base where there is some plaster residue.

Catalogue Note
Ceccardo Egidio Fucigna was born in Carrara, Italy, where he was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts. He arrived in England in around 1860, exhibiting at The Royal Academy of Arts between 1863 and 1879. Fucigna collaborated with esteemed sculptors and architects including William Burges to realise several public monuments; notably, his works are displayed in Cardiff Castle, and adorn the façade of Royal Holloway College.
