This cruet is recorded in Barnard's 1861/62 Day Book, p. 421, 29 April 1862. (Archive of Art and Design, Victoria and Albert Museum):
'J. & F. Thomas
'A large size 5 Hole antique Cruet Frame 5 Convex shape, ante[?] scroll Handle, wt chased stem, pillars & feet wh ante shell, bold chasd scroll shield in front, Contains their 2 Bottles & chasd mts Fox's make. & two Bell'd richly embossed Castors - 1 jointed Cover & gilt insd for Mustd the other pd pepper & larger centre Caster pd for Sugar'
Barnard's were regular suppliers to F.B. Thomas at the time of the 1862 Exhibition. The Official Catalogue notes (p. 61):
'Mr. Thomas, of New Bond Street, exhibits many beautiful and highly-finished specimens of the silversmith's art. His attention has evidently been directed to the production of such articles as would be required for daily use... the small, but prettily arranged, case of this exhibitor contains numerous pieces of plate, ably modelled, and of a very high order of merit.'
