Condition

The canvas has been relined and the paint surface appears clean. Ultra violet inspection reveals an even varnish. In the lower left corner there is a 10 x 3 cm. area of restoration. Furthermore there is an area of restoration along the lower and the left margin. There are some very minor scattered retouchings in the sky and in the sitter's jacket. There is also a previous campaign of restoration to address a pattern of craquelure in the sitter's right cheek and lips. Overall the painting is in good condition.
