the front panel decorated with armorials including those of Habsburg, Austria, Lorraine and Belgium and the motto 'Heil und Glück', the spine and detached reverse of similar but plainer design, the interior lined with red velvet
Condition
This is very unusual and very decorative. Enamel generally good with some losses to surface but generally stable. The brass ground with surface scratches from cleaning and use, rubbing to engraved detail. No key. Leather lined underside with typical old marks and scratches. The interior re-lined with red-velvet, the reverse of the lid was formerly with a conforming brass and enamel panel which has been replaced by a panel of red velvet. This detached panel with marks and scratches and residual sticking tape. Its removal from the piece does not detract. An unusual casket that is in 'country house condition.
