Condition
This chimneypiece is impressive, quite extraordinary in fact. It has been in store for sometime and this shows and will require the attention of a professional restorer. The finely carved wood has chips (with losses) and old marks and scratches as well as age cracks. These losses reveal white gesso under coat and timber in places. The surface with ingrained dirt. There is a loss to skirting boards. The canvas panel with extensive craquelure and will require restoration. There is also some spilt white paint to this. The cornice is damaged and will require putting together. This is a monumental object which will require a professional carpenter to install.
