Description

  • French School, 19th century
  • Urns of Flowers with Putti: A Pair
  • both oil on panel
  • each 63 by 125.5cm., 24¾ by 49½in. (2)

Condition

Both panels have arched tops and signs of old nail holes in the back, some of which are also visible in the front, with associated paint loss. One of the panel has a circa 18cm horizontal split on the reverse and one circa 6cm split visible in the front. There are areas of rubbing along the lower edges and some additional discoloured varnish on one of the panels, as visible in the online illustration. Ultra-violet light reveals intermittent strokes of retouching along the edges and some other very minor scattered spots. Overall, this work presents well. Both presented in a decorative gilt frame.
