Provenance

Anonymous sale, London, Sotheby's, 8 November 1995, lot 46 (as George Knapton).

Condition

The canvas has an old relining. The paint surface is relatively clean, but is slightly discoloured due to an old varnish. Under ultra violet inspection the varnish is thick and milky, which makes further restorations difficult to discern. There is one minor area of retouching to the lower left. The work is offered in a carved and gilt wood frame in good condition.
