text: surah hud (XI) to surah yusuf (XII), beginning of verse 38
Arabic manuscript on polished paper, 40 leaves, plus 1 flyleaf, 5 lines to the page, written in elegant black muhaqqaq script in black ink, incomplete, verses separated by gold and poly-chrome roundels, khamsa and 'ashr gold and polychrome markers, surah headings written in white thuluth script against a ground decorated with vegetal scrolls in two shades of gold, ruled in blue and red, opening bifolium decorated with gold and polychrome cartouches above and below a line of elegant thuluth, in later brown binding

Condition

Modern binding, consolidations and restorations, particularly to margins, frontispiece with some retouching and overpainting to illumination, minor foxing and some traces of old humidity stains, particularly visible along external margins, very slight areas of rubbing, as viewed.

Qur'an sections from the same series as the present lot have been sold in Sotheby's Paris, 18 November 2013, lot 138, and Christie's London, 21 April 2016, lot 70 and 6 October 2011, lot 95. This manuscript represents one of the most extensive remaining texts from this series.
