Catalogue Note

In the early 1970s, Franz West (1947-2012) produced a group of sculptures in plaster and papier-mâché that the Austrian artist entitled Passstücke or Adaptives. Moved by Franz West's close friends around public spaces and during exhibition openings, these "pieces to be adapted" are seen by the artist as continuations of the body, as "prosthesis sculptures" in a performative approach in keeping with the tradition of the Viennese Actionists.
