Condition
The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes, Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
This work is in lovely condition. The paint layer is very fresh and un-abraded. The canvas is lined with Beva-371 as an adhesive. The texture of the paint is unaffected by the lining. The reason for the lining is a very thin U-shaped break, which begins above the farmhouse towards the right side of the picture and runs through the bottom of the figures standing by the edge of the river and up into the field beyond. This is a very thin break with a very accurate amount of retouching. There is no damage anywhere else within the work. Despite this break, the condition can be considered to be very good.
