Catalogue Note

According to the Emil Carlsen Archives, there are at least four known variations of this subject by Carlsen, which he created over several years after visiting the Caribbean on a family trip in 1913. There is also some evidence that he may have visited the Caribbean again with his family in 1916.  The present work is the basis of a larger painting, also entitled St. Thomas Harbor, painted circa 1916.

This work is offered in an original Carrig-Rohane frame, dated 1916 / Boston and numbered #1511.
