Catalogue Note

Mexican gold snuff boxes are very unique in their design, with their upright oval section, lightly domed ends and diamond thumbpiece. The loose fit of their lid would preclude their being used for snuff but the shape would serve for short cigaros. It has been suggested otherwise that these boxes were intended for comfits.
