Condition
The canvas has been relined. There is a faint vertical stretcher mark in the centre and faint hairline craquelure. Ultraviolet light reveals some minor spots of restoration notably in the sky in the centre and to a circa 3cm vertical restoration in the foreground left of centre, and the varnish fluoresces opaquely obscuring a clear reading of the surface and possibly obscuring some further signs of retouching. The painting is in good overall condition and would benefit from a surface clean to address the varnish which has yellowed over time.
Held in a decorative gilt frame.
The varnish is more yellowed in reality than suggested by the catalogue illustration, and the colours somewhat deeper.
