Condition

The canvas has not been lined. There are some fine lines of drying craquelure notably visible in the woman's face and neck and one very small spot of paint flaking towards the centre of the right framing edge. Ultra-violet light reveals areas of residual varnish which make the surface quite difficult to read. However, intermittent strokes of retouching are visible along the left framing edge. There are also scattered spots of cosmetic retouching visible throughout, notably in the woman's head, neck and face, and in the background. There is a circa 3 by 3cm spot in the grass in the lower left quadrant (patched on the reverse) possibly addressing an old repair. This work presents well and is in good overall condition. Presented in a silver frame.
