  • signed and dated W. Leistikow 86. lower left
  • oil on canvas
  • 131 by 97cm., 51½ by 38in.

Condition

The canvas has not been lined. A very faint horizontal stretcher bar mark is visible across the centre of the composition. Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals scattered cosmetic retouching possibly addressing old paint flaking, notably clusters of retouching in the sky in the upper left quadrant, some small spots in the upper framing edge closer to the left corner, in the post in the lower left and in and around the top sail of the boat. When inspected under uv light, the signature appears to have been strengthened. Overall, this work is in good condition and is ready to hang. Presented in a decorative gilt frame with a nameplate.
