Provenance

Condition

The panel has been cradled, possibly addressing two minor horizontal splits, visible on the reverse. There is a very fine pattern of hairline craquelure throughout, notably in the sky, some minor rubbing along the lower part of the left framing edge and one minor spot of flaking in the centre of the upper framing edge. Ultra-violet light reveals a quite opaque layer of residual varnish which makes the surface difficult to read. However, a horizontal line of retouching is visible across the panel towards the centre of the composition. Some finely applied lines of retouching addressing craquelure are also visible in the lower left corner. This work presents well and is otherwise in good condition and ready to hang. Presented in a dark wooden frame. Colours are somewhat less red in reality than in the catalogue illustration.
