Overall, the condition of the bust is very good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. Much of the original polychromy survives. There is, however, wear to the polychromy, in particular to the jacket and especially the lapels. There are some losses to the polychromy at the edges of the bust and the socle. Much of the polychromy at the back to the collar is lost and there is particular wear to the top of the head. there are a few small chips, in particular to the edges of the socle. There are some water marks to the front of the socle. There are some abrasions to the surface, such as above the word 'Enoch' and various other minor scratches, including to the back of the socle. There are a few scratches to the waistcoat. There is craquelure to the paint, in particular to the face. There may be some minor restorations to the paint at the eyelids. The bust appears to have been cast in two principle sections, a slightly visible joint runs through the shoulders and up the head.
