Description

  • Charles Samuel
  • Relief with Leda and the Swan
  • signed: Ch. Samuel
  • white marble, with bronze mounts

Condition

There is dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The marble appears to have been outside, with loss of surface detail due to weathering. The marble has been heavily cleaned, giving it a shiny appearance. There is, however, dirt to the surface throughout. The front left section of the base is reattached and restored; there is orange staining to the front edge of the base throughout. There is veining to the marble, consistent with the material, in particular to the body of the woman and to her proper left eye. There is particular veining to the right side of the sculpture at the back, above the signature. The bronze has been repatinated.
