Condition

Overall, the condition of the bronze is very good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The bronze is cast in sections and joints are visible to the tops of the arms. There are a number of original slightly visible casting plugs, particularly to the tops of the arms. There is wear to the patina at the high points. There is some dark spotting to the bronze. There are some small spots of greening, in particular to the proper left arm. There are a few minor scratches to the top of the terrasse.

Catalogue Note

The present bronze is based on a Roman marble in the Altes Museum, Berlin (inv. no. Sk 193). Another similar 19th-century bronze is in the Wallace Collection (inv. no. S232).
