Condition

To the naked eye : The paintings appear in very good condition. Both have been painted on copper plates perfectly straight and well preserved. The pictorial material is perfectly stable. We don’t notice any loss or restoration under the naked eye. Both copper have been properly cleaned, most probably at the end of the 20th century. The cleaning has preserved the glazes. Under U.V. light: Le Christ et la Samaritaine: The painting appears under a thick green uniform varnish. We notice some repaints in the Christ’s arm and the blue drapery, as well as some slight repaints in the Samaritan’s leg. Noli me tangere: The painting appears under a green uniform varnish. We notice a repaint on the pink drapery of Maria Magdalena.
