Condition

Good condition overall with minor wear and surface dirt to the surface consistent with age and handling. The index of here poroper right hand is missing and the thumb reattached. Both front legs of the dog appear to be reattached.

Catalogue Note

La constitution ample aux formes vulptueuses de Diane, le mouvement des drapés et les plis serrés qui les composent rappellent le travail de sculpteurs flamands de la première moitié du XVIIIe siècle et notamment Gabriel Grupello. Nous connaissons de ce dernier une grande Diane en marbre faisant pendant à Narcisse, tous deux aux Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles. Attribué au même, signalons également un bronze représentant Atalante (Herzog Anton Ulrich - Museum, Braunschweig), faisant pendant à Méléagre (Staatliche Kunstsammlung, Cassel), présentant de grandes similitudes stylistiques.
