Condition

Good condition overall with minor wear and some surface dirt consistent with age and handling. The wings are carved separately. A few natural inclusions to the marble and a few minor chips to the edges of the terrace. A small repair to the dege of the cup in her proper right and, another one to her proper right small finger. The surface of the marble appears to have been repolished.

Catalogue Note

Elève de l'Académie des Beaux-Arts de Bologne, Adamo Tadolini s'installe à Rome en 1814 où il intègre l'atelier d'Antonio Canova (1757-1822). Il y réalisa notamment de nombreuses copies d'après l'Amour et Psyché du maître néoclassique.
Tadolini donne ici une version plus personnel de ce même thème mythologique. Psyché est représentée alors que, s'étant munie d'une lampe, elle s'approche de l'Amour endormi pour éclairer son visage et découvrir les traits de son mystérieux époux.
